Meet us at our base in Södermalm, Stockholm. Transport to and from the evening’s natural ice skating location is included.

- Natural ice can never be guaranteed. If conditions do not allow us to operate the tour safely, an alternative date, experience or refund will be offered according to our booking conditions.
- The experience is focused on atmosphere and enjoying Nordic skating rather than distance or performance.
Dress warmly for a winter evening outdoors. Unlike the full-day tour, there will be periods when you are standing or sitting around the fire, so warm layers are particularly important.
Please bring:
- Thermal base layer
- Warm mid-layer, preferably wool or fleece
- Warm windproof and water-resistant outer layer
- Warm gloves
- Warm wool or synthetic socks
- Hat or beanie
- Personal water bottle
Avoid cotton where possible, particularly for base layers and socks, as it retains moisture and can become cold when wet.
You do not need to bring Nordic ice skates, boots, poles, headlamp or specialist safety equipment — we provide the skating and safety gear needed for the evening.
Do I need previous ice skating experience?
No previous Nordic ice skating experience is required. Your guide introduces the equipment, safety and basic technique before you begin skating.
Is night ice skating suitable for beginners?
Yes. The firelit course allows you to skate at your own pace, and the experience is focused more on enjoying the winter evening than covering long distances. You should, however, have reasonable balance and be comfortable with outdoor activity.
What is Nordic night ice skating?
Nordic ice skating is the Scandinavian tradition of travelling across naturally frozen lakes and waterways using long-bladed skates. On our night tour, a prepared course allows you to experience natural ice after dark, with outdoor candles marking the route and a campfire nearby.
How is the Night tour different from the 1-Day Nordic Ice Skating tour?
The 1-Day tour is a full day of exploring natural ice, learning Nordic skating and travelling across the winter landscape.
The Night tour is shorter and more atmospheric. You skate around a firelit course at your own pace, return to the campfire between laps and share an outdoor dinner cooked over the fire.
Can you see the Northern Lights in Stockholm?
Yes, the Northern Lights can occasionally be seen around Stockholm. However, sightings depend on solar activity, cloud cover and other natural conditions and can never be guaranteed.
Is this a Northern Lights tour?
Not primarily. This is a Nordic night ice skating experience. We leave Stockholm for darker surroundings, which means there is a possibility of seeing the Aurora Borealis when conditions are right, but the tour operates whether or not the Northern Lights appear.
Where will we go ice skating?
There is no fixed lake. Your guide chooses the location according to current natural ice and weather conditions. This can mean travelling farther from Stockholm when better skating conditions are available elsewhere.
How is the skating course lit?
Large outdoor candles are placed along the skating course, creating a visible trail of flames across the ice. Headlamps are also provided.
Is natural ice skating at night safe?
Travelling on natural ice requires specialist knowledge and equipment. Your guide assesses the conditions and prepares the skating course before the tour. You receive a full safety briefing, specialist natural-ice safety equipment and a headlamp.
What equipment is included?
Nordic ice skates, skating boots, poles, backpack, headlamp and specialist natural-ice safety equipment are provided.
What should I wear?
Wear warm winter clothing in several layers. Because you will alternate between skating and spending time around the campfire, warm base layers, an insulating mid-layer, winter outerwear, gloves, a hat and warm socks are recommended.
What is the minimum age?
The minimum age for the Nordic Night Ice Skating tour is 10 years.
How large are the groups?
There is a maximum of 8 guests per guide.
Is transport included?
Yes. Transport from Stockholm to the selected natural ice skating location and back is included.
Is dinner included?
Yes. Dinner is prepared outdoors over the open fire during the evening. Hot drinks are also included.
What happens if there is no suitable natural ice?
Our guides follow the conditions and search for suitable natural ice around the Stockholm region. If conditions do not allow us to operate safely, the itinerary may be changed or an alternative programme offered according to our booking conditions.

Our Nordic Night Ice Skating tour is less about distance and technique than our full-day skating experience. Here, skating is part of a wider Scandinavian winter evening — moving across natural ice in the darkness, warming up around the fire, sharing a dinner cooked over the flames and heading back onto the lake whenever you feel like another lap.

Before skating, your guide introduces you to the Nordic skating equipment and takes you through a full safety briefing. The guide checks the natural ice conditions, prepares the skating area and leads the group around the firelit course for the first lap.

From there, the evening settles into a relaxed rhythm. Skate at your own pace, stop by the campfire for a hot drink, head back onto the ice or simply take some time to enjoy the silence and darkness around you.

Later in the evening, we gather around the open fire for dinner, cooked outdoors while the frozen lake stretches into the darkness around us.

And occasionally, nature gives us something extra.

On clear nights, there is a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights above Stockholm. The Aurora Borealis can never be predicted or guaranteed. Think of it as a rare bonus to an evening that is already worth heading onto the ice for.

A Firelit Skating Course on Natural Ice

Once darkness falls, the frozen lake becomes a completely different place. Large outdoor candles are placed along the skating course, creating a trail of flames across the ice.

Your guide checks and prepares the route before leading the group around the course for the first time.

After the first lap, you can find your own rhythm. Take another lap, skate slowly beneath the night sky or return to the campfire whenever you want a break.

This is not about seeing how far or how fast you can skate. The firelit course gives you the freedom to enjoy Nordic ice skating at your own pace while your guide remains nearby throughout the evening.

Dinner Around the Fire

The campfire is our base for the evening — somewhere to warm up between laps, share a hot drink and enjoy the winter night.

During the tour, we prepare dinner outdoors over the open fire. After skating in the cold, sitting beside the flames with warm food and a hot drink is as much a part of the experience as the skating itself.

Then, if you feel like it, there is still time to put the skates back on and head onto the ice again.

Northern Lights in Stockholm While Ice Skating

Yes — it is possible, but never guaranteed.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, can occasionally be seen around Stockholm when solar activity, cloud cover and other conditions come together.

By leaving the city and its strongest light pollution behind, we give ourselves a darker night sky. But the Aurora is a natural phenomenon, and no guide or forecast can promise that it will appear on a particular evening.

That is why the experience does not depend on seeing the Northern Lights. The winter night itself — natural ice, fire, darkness, skating and dinner outdoors — is what we come for.

If the Northern Lights appear above us, consider them an extraordinary bonus.

Natural Ice, Darkness & Safety

Nordic ice skating takes place on natural frozen lakes, where conditions change with temperature, snowfall and wind. The exact lake and skating course therefore vary throughout the winter.

Your guide follows current conditions, assesses the ice and prepares the skating area before the tour. Every guest receives a safety briefing and the specialist equipment required for travelling on natural ice.

Because the tour takes place after dark, headlamps are provided in addition to the outdoor candles marking the skating course.

If suitable natural ice cannot be found or conditions do not allow the tour to operate safely, the itinerary may need to be changed or an alternative programme offered according to our booking conditions.

When Can You Go Night Ice Skating in Stockholm?

Nordic Night Ice Skating takes place during the Swedish winter, when natural ice conditions allow us to skate safely on the frozen lakes around Stockholm.

Conditions vary from year to year, and the skating location changes throughout the season. Our guides follow the weather and natural ice conditions to choose the best available location for each evening.

The exact departure time is shown when booking and varies through the winter as daylight hours change.
